Becoming A Child Care Provider

We are recruiting family child care providers! Specific areas of need are Plattsburgh and Malone. If you, or someone you know is interested, we will help you explore whether or not registered family child care is a good fit for you and assist you with the application process from start to finish. In addition, you may be eligible for funding to help you in starting or expanding your child care program!

As a general rule, any child care provider planning to serve three or more children for more than three hours a day on a regular basis, must obtain a license or registration from the NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS). This license will demonstrate their day care program meets regulations that the state has established to help ensure the health and safety of children in care. As the local Child Care Resource and Referral (CCRR) agency for Clinton and Franklin Counties, we provide information to new and prospective child care providers about many aspects of program start up and maintenance.

In order to obtain an application to apply for a child care program license or registration, you will first need to take the Child Day Care Orientation available through OCFS...

Start Orientation

New family child care providers must also take the 15 hour Health and Safety course. This class is offered in Plattsburgh as a 2-Saturday session, with start up grant money available to cover the cost. New child care center directors must take a Health and Safety course specific to child care centers.

LEGALLY EXEMPT CHILD CARE ENROLLMENT

Legally exempt child care providers are those who provide child care for families who receive a child care subsidy payment from their Department of Social Services, and are exempt from NYS licensing based on criteria for the number of and relation to the children being cared for; part or full-time (informal care). As a Legally Exempt Enrollment Agent, CCCCNC provides assistance and support to legally exempt caregivers, including grants for training and health and safety items consistent with providing quality care.
